Dear Clients,

Welcome to our Spring newsletter!

I have an exciting team update to share – we are absolutely thrilled to introduce Kyella McKenna as the newest member of the Chemvet team! Kyella has taken over from Josh and brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and energy to the team. She is already up and about, and eager to help you navigate your animal health requirements.

Events in the pipeline

Make sure to come and say hello to Kyella and the rest of the team at our upcoming events! We will be at Henty Machinery Field Days from September 22nd to 24th, and the Australian National Field Days in Orange from 22nd to 24th October. We’re also very excited to be booked for ‘BEEF 2027’ in Rockhampton next May. As BEEF falls on the same week as Agfest in TAS, all of the team will be out and about at once, which will be a first in Chemvet history!

Fighting inflation pressure

Behind the scenes, the Chemvet team is working hard to fight this year’s inflation pressures that are affecting all faces of our industry. At the moment, we’re keeping most products at reliable Chemvet prices. However, as new batches of stock come through, like most businesses, we may need to make a few modest changes to the price list. Our priority is to maintain the highest standard of quality with our products and keep them cost-effective for you. The team also loves to add value to Chemvet’s service, so feel free to take advantage of subsidised worm testing services, free parasite management (and trace element) advice, as well as our extensive logistics network to get product to you when you need it.

New products

I would like to say thanks to all who have given our newest products ‘Vetmec Multi Plus B12’ and ‘Vetmec Doraguard’ an enormous amount of support. So much so, to keep up with demand, we are already into our third production batch of Vetmec Multi Plus B12! See over the page on the best times to treat with Multi Plus B12, it will definitely pay to be organised for your Spring treatments.

Here’s hoping for favourable Spring weather conditions across all our pastoral regions.

Have a fantastic, safe and productive Spring!

Kind regards,

Murray Grant & The Chemvet Team

Product Guide for Cattle Tick Control – Spring 2026

Controlling Cattle Tick (Rhipicephalus australis) is vital to preventing production loss from the effects of ticks and the blood-borne diseases they carry. Over the last five years, Chemvet has been committed to increasing our product offerings that have registered claims against Cattle Tick. Please see our options below.

As usual with regard to tick control, it’s important to start the season strong and on the front foot. Applying a long acting product, such as Vetmec LA or Vetmec Tickmaster Plus, in late spring/early summer BEFORE you see ticks on cattle, kills off the emerging ticks before they can start breeding. In doing so, there will be fewer ticks around at the peak of summer.

Strikemaster Extra Controls Fly for up to 29 Weeks!

Recent rains have set the spring up to suit a fly wave. With existing ground moisture or 2+ days of rainfall/heavy dews, when ground temperatures reach 15°C and ambient temperatures are between 17-28°C, fly eggs that have overwintered will begin to hatch and flies will start to emerge.

The 2nd and 3rd larval (maggot) stages of the Sheep Blowfly (Lucilia cuprina) cause 90% of flystrikes of sheep in Australia, as they are feeding on flesh. The active ingredient ‘dicyclanil’ in Vetmec Strikemaster Extra protects sheep from flystrike by killing 1st stage maggots before they molt to the 2nd ‘flesh eating’ stage.

In that way, Vetmec Strikemaster Extra provides up to 29 weeks of protection from flystrike. Perfect for protecting:

  • Lamb marking wounds
  • Rams during joining
  • Body strike
  • Breech strike

Remember to stay on top of worms control as well, because dags will attract flies! Use Vetmec LV and Vetmec Dual for a cost-effective triple-combination drench!

Preparing for Weaning Spring Lambs

The weaning checklist is similar for lambs born any time of year and it centres around ensuring their bodies can handle the big change of living without the ewes. Below are our few key points to be thinking about during lambing, so you’re giving them the best start possible:

  1. Plan which paddocks you’ll put your lambs in after weaning, prioritising feed quality and low worm burdens, if possible.
  2. Organise treatments you’ll give them at weaning, including clostridial vaccines, drench and fly control.
  3. Decide if the weaned lambs will need any supplementary feed to meet growing energy, protein or fibre needs.

Give the team a call on 1800 243 683 to organise delivery of your products for weaning!
