Winter Newsletter 2026
Dear Clients,
What a tumultuous time since our Autumn Newsletter! The US-Israeli war with Iran has certainly turned things upside down with regards to the worldwide supply of oil and gas, and all the downstream industries that agriculture in Australia depends on, such as petrol, diesel, plastics and fertiliser. Every day, we receive notifications from suppliers that they are adjusting their prices to make up for increases in their production or transport costs. While some increases are understandable given rising costs, others have been less predictable.
At Chemvet, we have carefully assessed these impacts on our Australian manufacturing and distribution operations and have taken a measured approach designed to support our customers:
For our VETMEC animal health products, we have stock already on the shelves unaffected by current circumstances (i.e., already manufactured). We expect this stock to last until around September 2026. We will then review our pricing against global economic conditions at the time and how they are affecting our costs of manufacturing and delivery, and may have to adjust prices.
For our Datamars offerings (ZTags and Tru-Test), we were notified in March and April that we would be charged additional surcharges and price increases exceeding 6% in total. We decided that our customers deserved a decent period of notice to get orders in at ‘old prices’, so absorbed these cost increases for a period of two months. On 1st June, we released a new price list for tag and Tru-Test offerings – please see more on the back page.
On another note, there are rumblings of an El Nino developing that could spell a drier than normal spring, so it would be a good idea to give this consideration in your planning, especially with regard to preemptive animal health treatments to ensure your stock are in tiptop condition to get through tough times, if they eventuate. Please read on through the Winter Newsletter 2026 for some great new Vetmec products to achieve that!
Kind regards,
Murray

ANOTHER NEW PRODUCT Winter Newsletter 2026 – VETMEC DORAGUARD!
We’re excited to bring another great Vetmec product to you in the Winter Newsletter 2026 – Vetmec Doraguard Antiparasitic Injection for Cattle & Pigs (Doramectin 10g/L). While identical in its spectrum of activity to the normal ‘Vetmec Cattle Injection’ (abamectin 10g/L), we have identified a fair demand for the doramectin formulation, so have decided to bring one to our Chemvet customers!
What makes Doraguard different?
- Safer for younger calves (less than 4-6 months old)
- Slightly longer protection periods against some parasites due to its carrier
- Has a full control claim against Cattle Tick (Rhipicephalus microplus)
If you have any questions or would like to place an order for Vetmec Doraguard, call us on 1800 243 683

PRIME LAMBS, PRIME WOOL, PRIME YOUR LONG ACTING DRENCH
Following on from our notes on the science behind primer drenches in our last newsletter, in the Winter Newsletter 2026 we wanted to provide some practical implications of not priming (giving an effective oral drench) at
the same time as giving a long acting needle, including Vetmec Moxiguard.
With a primer drench, all long acting drenches are allowed to work as well as the worm population on your property will allow. In most cases, this is as long as the claim on the label. However, without a primer drench, we’ve seen some extremely poor results out of a long acting needle. Some as short as 3 weeks!
Moxiguard Long Acting is a very handy worm management tool, especially for pre-lambing, and we want to keep it that way!
Chemvet’s top tips for using long acting drenches responsibly:
- Always give an effective primer oral drench (preferably with multiple actives, e.g. Vetmec LV & Vetmec Dual) at the same time as the long acting needle (Vetmec Moxiguard)
- Always give an oral drench at the end of the protection period = Exit/Tail Cutter Drench
- Aim to only use a long acting once a year in your ewes, e.g., for the pre-lambing drench.
- If you’re suspicious about the efficacy of ANY drench product, do a drench check: worm test before you drench, and again 10-14 days after.
