Dear Clients,
We don’t want to wish an extended dry spell but just thought we would remind everyone what a bit of dust looked like!
At Chemvet, we pride ourselves in forecasting and forward planning, however, we would like to extend an apology for some stock outs during the year that were totally beyond our control. The worldwide disruption of supply chains, especially in plastics and polymers, has meant that some tag colours were unavailable at times and purchase orders for our guns and applicators, placed in April, have only just been fulfilled. Hopefully these issues are now behind us. However, on the tag front, please continue to get your orders in early to avoid last-minute panic.
The prolonged parasite challenge brought on by the 3rd wet year in a row has highlighted the need for proactive treatments and multi-active strategies. More, over the page, on the need to treat early with effective ‘multi-active’ products to prevent massive parasite loads – ticks and worms especially.
Staff changes at Chemvet with long serving Diana ‘hanging up her boots’ after 15 years – more over the page.
Many thanks for supporting us throughout 2022 and all the best for Xmas and a happy and prosperous 2023.
Kind regards,
Murray

TICK CONTROL
Treat Smart, Treat Early – Prevent Summer Build Up
For our clients living in the tick zone of QLD/NT, we’re hoping you’re well on track with controlling your Cattle Tick this season. If not, we cannot stress the importance of treating early.
Dr Matt Playford (Dawbuts) said at a forum – “When a female tick gets pregnant, it will lay about 3000 eggs, which means if you kill a tick now it could prevent 3000 other ticks infecting your cattle”
We could not have put this into words any better!
Which Tickmaster is best to use?
Use Tickmaster Plus Ivermectin if your cattle already have ticks on them and/or if they also need to be treated for worms.
300 x 500kg doses per 15L
= $4.93 per head
-
Vetmec Tickmaster Plus IvermectinPrice range: $270.00 through $1,480.00 + GST
Use normal Tickmaster if your cattle are currently tick free (or have had a previous ‘mectin treatment).
500 x 500kg doses per 15L
= $2.64 per head
-
Vetmec Tickmaster Pour-OnPrice range: $220.00 through $1,320.00 + GST
**Please note the ticks we are referring to are Australian Cattle Ticks (Rhipicephalus microplus) which are found in northern areas, NOT bush ticks or paralysis ticks**

Sheep
Strikemaster – NEW LOOK!
As part of our continual product improvement at Chemvet, Vetmec Strikemaster now comes in a slightly different drum (we’re finding they stack and travel much better).
- Protection against blowfly strike for 18 – 24 weeks.
- Off-shears, short wool or long wool.
- $850 + GST for 20L
- $290 + GST for 5L
Vetmec Mineral Mix

After the copious amounts of rain most of the country has had, it’s more than likely that the grass is lush and ‘watery’, and sheep won’t be picking up the usual amounts of trace elements they get from grazing close to the ground.
In wet years, the addition of Vetmec Mineral Mix into your summer drench of Vetmec LV + Selenium and/or Vetmec Dual will fortify their nutrition and bolster productivity. Especially in weaner sheep!
Add Vetmec Mineral Mix to your next drench order!

Worm Testing
This year, the best advice we can give for managing flocks that are struggling with a worm burden is to conduct regular worm tests. Chemvet has teamed up with Parasite Diagnostics over many years and can provide you with a worm testing service.
We send you the sample collection equipment and you send the samples to the lab, then Tash or Murray follow up with a phone call about the results and can help you out with future drench decisions, if required.
Bulk Egg Counts start at $32, with discounts on more mobs. Larval cultures and liver fluke test are also available. Give us a call for more information.
Let us now if we can throw in some test kits with your next drench order.

Tag Orders over Christmas
Expected turnaround times for orders of tags over the Christmas and new year period will be slightly longer than usual due to public holidays, extra pressure on Australia Post for delivery, and Datamar’s closure over the holiday period. If you need tags during this time, we recommend ordering sooner rather than later.
Update: Tag Price Rise
Since the newsletter was printed and sent, Datamars have informed us that the price of tags will be increasing as of the 1st January 2023. To save on tag costs, get your orders in by 31st December 2022 and beat the price rise!

2023 – 2025 Notebooks – Now Available!
Let us know if you need one thrown in with your next order! Clients who have bought product or tags from us this year will find a notebook enclosed with this newsletter as their Christmas gift.

Farewell
After just over 15 years as a devoted Chemvet team member, Diana has decided it’s time for a change of scenery. She will miss dealing with all of you. Chemvet is appreciative of her hard work and expertise over the years and wish her all the best for her next chapter.
Heard this joke the other day…
A politician visited an outback town and asked a group of farmers what the government could do for them.
“We have two big needs,” said one of the farmers. “First, we have a hospital, but no doctor.”
The politician whipped out his mobile, spoke for a while and then said: “I have sorted it out. A doctor will arrive here just after the election. What is your other need?”
“We have no mobile phone reception at all in our area!”
